Turkey and Syria In Unfathomable Disasters … And Need All Help … !

Turkey and Syria are very much in the news and in urgent need of every help available. This particular write-up is from a release from GHNI staff, Jeff and Beth Latsa, who currently lives in Turkey. Donation sites are listed within their update.

Currently, I am also working with another organization that is providing immediate relief that is more focused on Recovery Efforts, directly related to securing potential lives (time is about out) and bodies still under the collapsed buildings, in Syria, where almost no aid is being provided via NGO(s) and/or governments. Those efforts are via FrontierPartnersInternatinal and sent directly to WarmHeartMinistries in Lebanon, where teams are already on the ground and working in Syria. Funds for such efforts can be directed to:

Here’s back to Jeff and Beth …
A Semi-Truck Full Of FoodEstablishment of 5 Soup KitchensSending 40-Foot Containers with Doors and Windows to Set Up Bases of Operations I WANT TO HELP

As the human suffering is immeasurable, many times the response is measured by the number of water bottles, diapers, and body bags distributed. The official death toll has climbed to over 40,000, yet our friends on the ground tell us that the real number might be 5 to 10 times higher. The pain of a mother that has lost her entire family and future or the grief of a father holding the lifeless body of his baby is being felt across an area that stretches across 200 miles. This is similar to the distance from Cleveland to Columbus and then to Cincinnati; the earthquake destroyed most of the cities in between. The scope of the work is unfathomable.

As a response, we and several partners have established soup kitchens in five of the hardest-hit areas. Since many people’s homes have collapsed, all their plates and belongings are crushed, and they are unable to cook for themselves. We cook boiled eggs in the morning and simple meals like soup or pasta and we use vans to deliver the cooked meals to the survivors and their families.
As a sign of our long-term commitment, we have sent refurbished shipping containers similar to single wide mobile homes from Izmir, the city we live in, to be used as soup kitchens.
Next week, I will be headed to the earthquake-affected area. I am assembling a small team of highly trained professionals who can make a significant impact, lay a foundation of the future, and provide credibility for our work. This team includes two medical doctors, a person trained in search and rescue, our Disaster Relief Director, a friend who ran a soup kitchen for 5,000 people during the last earthquake, Basak (our Turkish National Leader)…and me.
Although not yet confirmed, I plan on having a live report from the earthquake area via ZOOM. Tentatively it is scheduled for 11:00am EST (8:00am PST; 5:00pm Europe) on Wed., 22 Feb., 2023. Once I get it set up, I will send you an invite. I’d love to have you join us, ask questions, and find out how you too can get involved and help. I WANT TO HELP

Thank you for your compassion for these families that have lost so much. God bless, jjl

Joyful Christmas …

❤️ BIG Hearts Thanks … and A Future … !!!

❤️ BIG hearts, as Nora and I offer love and gratefulness to you in your care of us over these 19 months. We’ve come so very-very-very far, far from THAT cliff! Truly we are a blessed couple and family to have such love, concern, prayers, and giving from you, especially in these times of going to the utmost precipice, death itself, and its many implications. A number of times in a day, I pause, giving God thanks for His infinite love and grace to see me through another breath, another heartbeat, another day. Flashed in front of me, I consider my entire life, from birth to present, in all its relationships, experiences, and places, an immeasurably abundant gift from Him. When I peer back into the terrain of my life, externally and internally, I do see pain (some excruciating and unseen by others), yet I am in awe of His goodness, and His extravagant kindness to me. Words will never convey, suffice, or be enough.

So as we journey on this path, Nora says I’m in the 85-ish% healed range. Now heading into December, and my progress looking into 90%, we invite you, with us into it all. Physical Therapy (actually several rounds of it) is finished and I’ve joined the Y. In our next newsletter, we’d like to gently yet faith-full(ly) introduce you to some possibilities, yes, even for some beginnings of limited travel again. Physicians all give this a “GO”. Yet for now, we see fit to bask in this “raising-from-the dead”, restoration, and so much we are learning in it all. Let’s celebrate together this provision in so many areas of God’s Presence in our hearts, and bodies. Yes, let us all together agree in it all, especially in this Thanksgiving and Christmas Season …

80% Promotion – PT – Countries Focus – Emigs October ’22

Dear Friends …

80%-ish, is what Nora is telling folks I’m promoted to.  Promotions are good!  We’re getting there.  PT-physical therapy 3x per week is going well, with some improvements in both strength and endurance.  PT even took me off the heart monitoring device, saying the numbers were now looking good enough.  Pulse can still get a bit raised, and they’ll call me down on the treadmill.  Yet overall, we are encouraged in this journey of recovery, and grateful to God!

I’ve had a couple of short two-night test runs/trips lately.  Both were here in Colorado and with organizations I’ve mentioned in the past.   BNO-Boys Night Out is one of our local monthly hangouts for men, that now has an annual retreat in Deckers.  The other was with the GSA, mentioned and noted in each of our monthly and hard-copy updates. GSA has regional yearly retreats, and our country region (West) is usually here in Colorado.  This year’s cabin of choice was Tabernash.  Great times of deep laughter and conversations were had by all at each event.  We also commissioned three new members in GSA.

Conferences for leadership and their wives and children, in Iraq/Kurdistan and Lebanon, went exceptionally well.  So many expressions of gratefulness for meeting their needs were communicated.  Their only requests were that we expand it to include even more, next year.  Seldom are some of these leaders in difficult areas of the Middle East served in such a powerful manner.  Our teaching team from here in Colorado included two leaders, a media professional, and Josia, Mike Park’s son.  One of the many beauties of it all was that national leaders wanted to share in the teaching and mentoring.  Our team was more than glad to honor these requests.  So much more happens on each and every trip like these.

Enjoy Creation, the Autumn weather, beauty, and nature provided that restores us in!

Joyfully journeying with you in all these and so much more!

Much love …
