80% Promotion – PT – Countries Focus – Emigs October ’22

Dear Friends …

80%-ish, is what Nora is telling folks I’m promoted to.  Promotions are good!  We’re getting there.  PT-physical therapy 3x per week is going well, with some improvements in both strength and endurance.  PT even took me off the heart monitoring device, saying the numbers were now looking good enough.  Pulse can still get a bit raised, and they’ll call me down on the treadmill.  Yet overall, we are encouraged in this journey of recovery, and grateful to God!

I’ve had a couple of short two-night test runs/trips lately.  Both were here in Colorado and with organizations I’ve mentioned in the past.   BNO-Boys Night Out is one of our local monthly hangouts for men, that now has an annual retreat in Deckers.  The other was with the GSA, mentioned and noted in each of our monthly and hard-copy updates. GSA has regional yearly retreats, and our country region (West) is usually here in Colorado.  This year’s cabin of choice was Tabernash.  Great times of deep laughter and conversations were had by all at each event.  We also commissioned three new members in GSA.

Conferences for leadership and their wives and children, in Iraq/Kurdistan and Lebanon, went exceptionally well.  So many expressions of gratefulness for meeting their needs were communicated.  Their only requests were that we expand it to include even more, next year.  Seldom are some of these leaders in difficult areas of the Middle East served in such a powerful manner.  Our teaching team from here in Colorado included two leaders, a media professional, and Josia, Mike Park’s son.  One of the many beauties of it all was that national leaders wanted to share in the teaching and mentoring.  Our team was more than glad to honor these requests.  So much more happens on each and every trip like these.

Enjoy Creation, the Autumn weather, beauty, and nature provided that restores us in!

Joyfully journeying with you in all these and so much more!

Much love …

“I’m alive !!!” 12 August ’22

Dearest friend …

“I’m alive !!!” … clip from The Incredibles movie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huYvLlrWIfg&ab_channel=ThangNguyen

yesterday the 11th on this yet another “anniversary” date (like 23 May, when all this started).  “Pull-the-plug” (NOT) day, is our 2nd, equally important celebration of the extended life given me, Nora, and our family.  11 August, the night after she was told by the surgeon’s team, at 9 am the following morning, that one of the surgeons on the team had the confidence in God, me and them/us, to pull through this ordeal, and live on into life … and NOT pull-the-plug.  Nora had, the night before prepared our children to say their “goodbyes” to Dad that day when she received the call.

We’re all still processing these 14 months.  Counseling and input for Nora and me, professionally and with friends and family have been essential.  I’ve had a good month, I feel like I’m in the 70-80% range, and start physical therapy in ten days.

And so we celebrate with you in this incredible milestone given me and us, life, bestowing blessings upon blessings!    Truly, I have crossed over from death to life!

Yesterday, Nora passed her Praxis Math exam!  We are so excited for her, as is she.  And hopes to become a regularly employed teacher, as soon as January.  Yippie !!!

On the 9th, Tuesday, Eliana got home from serving with YoungLife for over 5 weeks in the desert of Oregon.  They were severely short-staffed, yet she had a great adventure and experience.  She afterward went to Washington to see her friend, Stacy.

Conference plans in Iraq/Kurdistan and Lebanon, in August and September, as well as a side trip into Jordan, are going well.  The USA team is prepared to be there, and the two trainers are excited to use their skills.  For me … well hopefully, one day soon.

Armenia gears up for its newest project, and I’ve been very active in making that happen.  Times with Tamara and her husband Sam, via ZOOM, have been great.  I’d love to be there this year, though health-wise it’s looking more like late Winter or early Spring ’23.

Serbia is doing extremely well, and we are so encouraged at how TCD is moving forward there.

Even in the journey of restoration of my health, we are allowed so many blessings to move forward, and our involvement in that.  We are so grateful to have you in our lives and on this path with us!
Much love …

Bryan’s off on venture again today!

Bryan’s off on venture again today! He’s set to leave from California and across America, hopefully to Maine, in two weeks … “on $10”, on his YouTube trek plan. This time it’s solo, so no backup and no crew … so if you’re a parent-sympathizer, pray! 🙂 He’s got the internal moxy … so let’s support him. He’s also using this trek to raise funds for https://www.feedingamerica.org/
Not sure yet when his GPS will kick in, but if you’d like to track him, I can let you know.

May ’22 Update …

Dear Friend …

Three hours of good solid work per day is what I’m now up to.  We are grateful for continued restoration, and a gentle expectancy leads us to believe I can up those hours in the next months.  I’m actually feeling some “normalcy” creeping ever so slowly back into life!  🙂 Friday, I’ll see the cardiologist, and oncologist, and have extensive bloodwork done, giving us some direction on the next out-patient stint surgery scheduling.

With more connectedness via ZOOM and other media venues, I’m seeing better just how well other staff are experiencing and moving healthy progress in almost all the villages and refugee areas we work in.  Jealous I cannot be there myself, as we serve leadership conferences in August.  They are requesting provisions for 120 to attend in Iraq/Kurdistan and 60 in Lebanon.  It will be a great time of refreshing, teaching, and relating in these extremely needy countries.  3-day GILPP, Geneva Institute of Leadership and Public Policy, which GHNI sponsors annually, was a great experience in May.

Nora and Eliana had a great time visiting Jonathan and Emily in May, and gardening continues, with its typical Colorado weather struggles (snow in May!).
Nora has an update(yesterday) on CaringBridge, if you like.

We are so grateful to have you in our lives and on this journey with us!

Much love … and have a great 4th Of July Day !
