3-Year Anniversary of: “pull the plug NOT day” !!!

Today is my 3-year anniversary of pull-the plug NOT !!! I am so grateful to be here with you all and celebrate GOD’s infinite goodness, love, patience, healing, and restoration of my life!!! I can honestly say, life has never been better! These 3 Caring Bridge journal entries say a lot about all the ups and downs of those 77 days in ICU and the recovery period afterward. Thanks for your support in prayer through it all!

This is an entry I didn’t think I would have to make. Dan’s body is shutting down. He has pneumonia so his lungs are struggling, his kidneys are shutting down, ischemic intestines and bowels. They are dying. We had to make a decision, surgery to remove the dead bowels or they would kill him. But surgery also could kill him. Or we can do nothing and just make him comfortable and he will die. We have chosen surgery and praying that the fighter that he is will kick in combined with Gods power to heal so he can make it through surgery and heal. As you can imagine, we are all in shock. God had given me the word that “everything will be ok”. I sensed that his meant he would be heathy again. It may still mean that. But at this moment we are staring death in the face. I pray that our gracious and mighty God will heal him in this life. But if he doesn’t, I pray that I would be able to see and sense his loving presence through it all. Thank you for you prayers.

Dan is in the room now after surgery. We stayed with him for 15-20 minutes and are heading home. We’re exhausted. He made it through surgery. It’s the first step. They will go back in and check his intestines in two days and hopefully reconnect his intestines if things look good. He said there comes a point when you can’t take anymore because the body can’t live. Part of the problem is the meds he is on for blood pressure. It causes the heart to squeeze harder so the brain and heart get more blood to stay alive. The consequences are the intestines and kidneys don’t get enough and can begin to shut down. But there isn’t anything else that can be done. He is going on dialysis to help with the kidneys. We’ll keep praying. Only God can continue to sustain him.
The doctor said we need to determine if his heart stops, do we want to shock his heart. He didn’t say why he brought that up and I was too tired and nauseous from a tension headache to think to ask. Thank you for your prayers.

I have been crying since 2:00, that was when I had a talk with the doctor about Dan’s deteriorating condition. His body has shut down. His bowels and intestines are dying, his lungs aren’t working so he’s on a ventilator as high as it goes. His kidneys aren’t functioning so he’s on dialysis. He has pneumonia, Sepsis, and E. Coli. And a dissection in the heart that needs to be repaired. If he would somehow survive, he would require a feeding tube, colostomy, dialysis, and oxygen plus full time medical supervision. I can’t believe this is happening. When am I going to wake up from this dream? Barring a complete miracle we will be taking him off life support in the next couple days. Pray.

“Dr Rudersdorf, cardiologist, just called me. He knows what Dr Dreisman told us and wanted to give us his opinion. Dan has improved a lot over the last 24 hrs. His lungs are getting stronger and vitals better. He thinks that there is nothing he’s facing that he can’t recover from at this time. So we are taking it one day at a time. For now we will not make him comfortable. He is fighting and our God is fighting. We’ll continue to pray for complete healing. ”
He is going into surgery right now. Pray for a miracle with his bowels”

Warm Summer greetings dear friend …
Nora and I were able to get away for a much-needed break, in June.  She has always wanted to see God’s creation in the magnificent Sequoias.  So off we set in the car to California.  Truly, they are a splendor to behold, massive in girth and volume!  Additionally, we were able to visit the areas of King’s Canyon and Yosemite.  🙂

We continue to see the Lord’s hand of favor, as opportunities open in Lebanon.  We mentioned Rami Hanna recently in an update, and it has been so encouraging to watch and support this his new venture, launched in Jordan,  “Footprints”.  Rami’s love for all, walking alongside so many, and his hand-to-hand heart for helping those in physical need, can only stir the hearts of those of us who serve him and his staff in our capacities.  So many refugees are being served via Rami and his staff!  We, supporting him, can’t keep up … and that’s a good thing!  ❤️  😀

GSA – Global Service Associates had their 5-year larger gathering of members in June at the Glen Erie Castle (Navigators) conference center.  It was yet again, a great reminder of my/our(your) choice to support and go as full-on members with GSA.  With their organizational focus, “Servants In Mission”, our gathering time together was filled with relationships that continue to become closer, as we share our lives, ministries, struggles, joys, and times together.  And it especially helps me, as I seek to facilitate and serve them in the members’ ZOOM calls together each quarter.

We could share a LOT more with you of June’s happenings; yet we want to keep this as “BLOG”-succinct as possible.  If you ever feel led to financially give to any of the specific work(s) we support; meaning those on the field in various capacities, please feel free to contact me directly.  I would be extremely happy and overjoyed to channel your hearts’ funding as directly to them as is feasible.

Lastly, Nora and I are praying, concerning my 1st potential trip since my dissected aorta.  We both want only GOD’s will in any possibilities.  There is a trip coming up in September, that I “could” be a part of, to Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq/Kurdistan.  Due to need(s) to support those many others and their families well, the cost for me would be higher than in any previous trips I’ve had, to the tune of $ 6,500.  So all is a lot to think and pray over.  Thanks for praying over this all!  Nora and I will decide something fairly quickly.

What an awesome June!
In your heart and spirit you are in and with us in all this.  Thank you !!! Please pray for Nora as she starts her new(2nd year) of teaching school full-time.  It is coming up so quickly (in less than a week), as this new district(49) and school, “Odyssey Elementary” starts earlier, yet has more breaks during the year.  She’ll have a 30-minute+++ drive each way and is teaching special education.  Though a much longer drive, pray this year is an abundant one of support, encouragement, and a life-giving one she lives and works naturally in.

Nora and I thank you, for being so “there” with us, as we all together move forward in our part of living into our Lord.
In Christ, you, and we, live a life of caring …

Our transition to GSA has taken a financial hit of almost $1.7K monthly, so we would be grateful for any considerations of this deficit.  🙂
