Bangladesh Flood Report – GHNI

It’s alway encouraging to receive “hot-off-the-press” reports from our field staff. Following is one from Bangladesh, with limited(grammar imperfect) editing …

Dear Sushil,
Greetings!
For your Kind information … here is flood response report.

Flood Project Report
Total Families Helped: 100
(Location: Gaibandha: 50, Sathkhira : 50)
By good grace we were able to distribute your kind GHNI gift and your support to flood effective peoples. Though there was big challenge to meet demand of effective community like: we are giving 100 families where more than 500 candidates received assistance. Our team really worked hard to do this hard implementation. They identify most significant candidates and give slip to collect goods from nearby safe place. Grateful we were able to help 100 families and giving 300 individuals flood informations.
This works opened door to help more later. Every place I clearly explain that this gift coming from our friends GHNI who love them and that love send this help.
I thankful in Gaibandha there is no long term helping and to start follow-up and assistance/TCD,

As I find out those families lost their crops so when water will come down they start cultivation again and they need future seed, fertilizer and awareness program.

TCD without “beginnings” is a void; it never happens.
TCD with good foundations in relationships, foci, training, field/leaders willing to lead, initial funding and the like is a WIN-WIN!

Bangladesh is in the initial stages of becoming that WIN-WIN. Relationships have been built for almost 18 months now. Focus is becoming clear. Training in initial TCD has happened. Field leadership has been chosen. Funding has begun to trickle in.

Within 6 months GHNI will have full ventured TCD in place in Bangladesh in 2 distinctly different village settings.

Join us please in this venture!

Thanks! Dan

Earthquake Nepal …

KathmanduPost(1)

“My children are traumatized by the sight of seeing many of our neighbors killed in the earthquake. Hundreds of our neighbors are camped out in open areas.” GHNI National Director – Kiran

These are the words of Kiran as we talked on the phone.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook Nepal days ago has been followed by over 100 after shocks. In Kathmandu, Kiran reports there are people afraid to enter the hospitals because of all the aftershocks, and are sleeping in the open air. Roads are blocked; food and water are becoming very scarce in many locations, even as international aid arrives.

As of this writing over 6,000 are confirmed dead, but that number is rising rapidly as villages are accessed.

GHNI has been working in Nepal for several years. Our staff will soon stabilize their families and continue reaching out beyond their own neighborhoods to engage in the national effort. Our plan is to do a general assessment on nearby villages where up to 95% of the homes have been destroyed. Preliminary evaluations reveal water and food will be greatly needed as the crisis of moving the dead and wounded winds down in the next few weeks.

GHNI is gearing up to provide water and food, especially to the villages outside Kathmandu that are out of reach to many. The uniqueness of GHNI’s mission is we also commit to helping villages rebuild, becoming self-sustainable, alongside residents.

We will focus on using local resources of food and water first, so we don’t disrupt local economies.

Our staff workers desperately need your help!

Bangladesh … our newest country!

Our road and path to the new village ...
Our road and path to the new village …

Bangladesh … our newest country, village, water well, leadership development, and friends!

One of the greatest joys of any people working together in a common cause is to see an extension of their common efforts and quality labors together. Bangladesh is our newest example of this. With over a year in preparation, ground work, and relating to other organizations and leaders, we have now in February celebrated GHNI’s newest venture into what was once called “East Pakistan”(Bangladesh).

Water, clean drinkable water was the urgent need in this village, a couple of hours from the capital city of Dhaka. The villagers were ecstatic that we, together with them, were able to provide this new well. Celebrations are never a small endeavor in any village now having clean water. And they showered the visiting team with much in ceremonial thanks and words of gratefulness.

New well equals clean drinking water!

Because of your generosity and willingness to give, our efforts together(with you) have opened up Bangladesh in new and self-sustainable ways! The celebration we experienced there … was for YOU also!
Thanks! Dan
